Thank you for contacting my office with your views on tax incentives for donations to community anti-terrorist organizations.
As your Senator, it is important to understand the viewpoint of Floridians like you in order to represent you better in Washington. I appreciate knowing of your concerns and, should the Senate take up this or related issues, I will have your views on file for my consideration at that time.
Again, thanks for bringing this important issue to my attention.
With kind regards,
Sincerely,
Bob Graham
United States Senator
(From HSF: After contacting more than 300 of the 500 Fortune Corporations, Dr. Dillon was able to realize that a letter only will not be sufficient to motivate Corporate America to include Homeland Security as one of their priorities of giving. This experience was the base to contact Senator Bob Graham and Request tax incentives for donations to community anti-terrorist organizations. We need to change “the culture” that Homeland Security is similar to National Security and therefore should be a matter of concern only of the Congress, Defense Department and the Administration. Homeland Security is the defense of America from inside attacks (including domestic and international terrorism) while National Security is the defense of America from outside threats and attacks. We are exploring different ways to develop public-private partnerships in the war on terrorism. Corporate giving is only one aspect of how this partnership will take place)

Dear Sonia:
Last year, during the first session of the 107th Congress, many
legislative items dealing with issues important to me and to the
people of the State of Florida were considered and signed into law.
Among these were measures to fight terrorism, combat the use of
the illegal and harmful drug Ecstasy, and ensure that our schools
are serving our children.
On January 23,2002, the second session of the 107th Congress
commenced. During the week of May 6, 2002, the Senate
approved legislation to help farmers meet the food supply needs of
the American people, and continued debate on changes to the trade
policies of the United States. In the coming year, I will work with
my colleagues in the Senate and House of Representatives towards
passage of important legislation to make certain that our seniors
budget surpluses are used to extend the solvency of Social Security,
to modernize the Medicare program, and to pay down our national
debt. Health care and food stamp benefits to working, legal
restoration of health care and food stamp benefits to working, legal
immigrant families, and the continued restoration and preservation
of our valuable natural resources are also priorities for me.
We have become well aware that terrorism can take many forms,
And we must prepare adequately to ensure effective detection,
prevention and recovery. As the Chairman of the Senate Select
Committee on Intelligence, I am working to ensure that our
intelligence efforts are both fully funded and effectively organized, I
assure you that the President and Congress are in the closest
collaboration, and I am confident that all the federal resources
necessary to cope with the continued threat will be available. Your
Input is a valuable resource as I represent Floridians in the
United States Senate.
Sincerely,
Bob Graham
United States Senator
